Beach Photo Competition — Terms
Last updated: 6 August 2026
1. The competition
The competition is run by Pinkie & the Brain ("we", "us"), Jersey. Entry is free and no purchase is necessary. The competition closes at 11.59pm on 30 September 2026. Entries received after that time will not be judged.
2. Who can enter
The competition is open to residents of Jersey only. Entry asks for your Jersey postcode, and an entry without one will not be judged. If we cannot reasonably satisfy ourselves that a winner lives in Jersey, we may ask for confirmation before their photograph is used, and may award that place to another entrant instead.
Photographers under 18 may take part, but their entry must be submitted by a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on the photographer's behalf — the credit stays with the photographer. Employees of Pinkie & the Brain and their immediate families may not enter.
3. How to enter
Submit your photograph at jerseybeachapp.com/photo-competition, together with your name, an email address we can reach you on, your Jersey postcode, and the place the photograph shows. You may enter more than one photograph. There is no entry fee.
4. Your photograph must be your own work
By entering you confirm that:
- you took the photograph yourself and own the copyright in it;
- it has not been substantially edited to add anything that was not there;
- any person recognisable in it has agreed to appear, and where that person is under 18 you have their parent or guardian's agreement; and
- the photograph does not infringe anyone else's rights.
You agree to indemnify us against any claim arising from a breach of this paragraph.
5. The licence you grant us
You keep the copyright in your photograph. Always.
By entering, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual and irrevocable licence to use, reproduce, resize, crop and display the photograph:
- in the Jersey Beach App on any platform;
- on jerseybeachapp.com; and
- in material promoting the app, including on social media and in press coverage of the competition.
We will credit you by name wherever the photograph appears, unless you ask us in writing not to. We will not sell the photograph, or license it on to anyone else, and we will not use it to endorse a third party's product.
This licence continues after the competition ends and whether or not you win — but we are not obliged to use any photograph. It is this broad for a practical reason: once a photograph has shipped inside a released version of the app, it cannot be removed from the copies already on people's phones.
6. Judging and prizes
Entries will be judged by the Jersey Beach App team on how well the photograph represents the place, its technical quality and its suitability for the app's banner format (landscape, with the middle of the frame kept clear). The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
There is one winner per place, and the prize is the page itself: the winning photograph for each will be featured on that place's page in a forthcoming update of the app, credited to the photographer. Because app updates are released through the App Store and Google Play, this will not be immediate. There is no cash prize.
7. Your personal information
We collect your name, email address, postcode and photograph solely to run the competition, contact the winners and credit the photographer. The postcode is used only to check that entrants live in Jersey, is never published, and is deleted with the rest of your entry details once the competition is over. We will not pass your details to anyone else or add you to a mailing list. You can ask us to delete your details at any time by emailing hello@jerseybeachapp.com — though we cannot remove a credited photograph from a version of the app already released. See our privacy policy.
8. General
We may cancel or amend the competition where it is reasonably necessary to do so. These terms are governed by the law of Jersey.
