⚠️ Safety first — please read this one

Jersey Beach App provides guidance, not safety information. Weather and tide figures are model-based predictions and can be wrong. Jersey has one of the largest tidal ranges in the world; the sea can rise faster than you can walk on the south-east reef and at beaches like Plémont. Always check official tide tables, follow lifeguard flags and signage, and use your own judgement before entering the water or crossing tidal areas. You use the app entirely at your own risk.

1. The service

The app and this site are provided free of charge by Pinkie & the Brain ("we"). All data comes from the third-party sources listed below and is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind.

2. Where our data comes from

  • Weather, UV, wind and sea state — the UK Met Office forecast model (UKV), served via the Open-Meteo forecast and marine APIs (rain probability and marine data from Open-Meteo's model blend). These are model forecasts, not measurements from Jersey weather stations, and can differ from actual conditions.
  • Tides — a tide curve modelled for St Helier from Open-Meteo sea-level data (optionally upgraded with WorldTides harmonic predictions). Heights are approximate and referenced to chart datum by a fixed offset. These are not official tide tables — for navigation, reef walks or anything safety-critical use the official St Helier tide tables published by the harbour authority.
  • Beach rankings ("best beach")— our own calculation combining forecast wind with each bay's orientation. It is an estimate of comfort, not a statement that any beach is safe.
  • Lifeguard information — seasonal RNLI patrol locations as published by RNLI Jersey. The app shows only that a beach is seasonally patrolled; it never knows whether a lifeguard is on duty right now. Swim between the flags and treat unflagged water as unpatrolled.
  • Beach amenities and dog rules — compiled from public sources and may be out of date; check on-site signage and gov.je.
  • Island map — coastline derived from OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the ODbL. Beach positions on the map are approximate and adjusted for legibility.
  • Food-truck listings — posted directly by independent truck owners (see section 4).

3. Beach and amenity information

Beach descriptions, amenities and dog rules are general guidance and may be out of date. Check on-site signage and gov.je for current rules.

4. Food-truck listings

Truck listings and daily specials are posted by independent businesses, not by us. We do not verify listings and are not a party to any purchase. Specials are offers made by the truck; availability, terms and honouring them are the truck's responsibility. We may remove any listing at our discretion.

5. Truck-owner accounts

By creating an account you agree to:

  • post accurate information about a genuine food business operating in Jersey;
  • hold any licences/permits required to trade at the locations you post;
  • not post unlawful, misleading or offensive content;
  • be responsible for activity under your account.

We may suspend or remove accounts or listings that breach these terms.

6. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all liability for loss or damage arising from use of the app or site, including reliance on weather, tide, beach or listing information. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

7. General

These terms are governed by the laws of Jersey, Channel Islands. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. We may update these terms; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
